Adam Knoche:

"When I first started out in art I always wanted to be a painter. I always had the romanticized idea of making these megalithic paintings that would inspire ideas on what I was trying to convey through my art. But when I started studying at the college level I realized that I was a physical artist that had to use my hands in a tactile way. I had to feel what I was making and to embrace the material in a way that would represent the fluidity of design and the overall aesthetic I was trying to achieve. Once I took a ceramic class I fell in love with the idea of my touch being left in this piece of art forever. Being able to be sensitive enough to show a varying of marks and line but also to be confident in my physical, aggressive style of working with the clay. I have learned through experience to be bold in my mark making and to try to push the material to its limits, while keeping the piece from destruction. In correlation with form and texture I have also become engulfed in the idea of surface. I have become intrigued in the idea of controlling and altering atmosphere to create a unique and beautiful surface, one that is covered in a wide range of variation and complexity.

Hello my name is Adam Knoche. I am a studio potter living in Alton, Illinois home to the tallest man in the world. I make my work on a kick wheel which I built shortly after graduating from school. I have a Bachelors degree of Fine Art in Ceramics which was earned from Ball State University under the teaching of Ted Neal. I will be attending Graduate school in the fall for my Masters in Fine Art. I have lived in Illinois, Montana, and Indiana. I make work that is minimal in form but contains a rich and lively surface. My work is mainly fired atmospherically but I do enjoy firing in many other kilns. Hobbies of mine include, hiking, camping, fishing, playing guitar and ukulele  and gardening."
