Pekka Kuusisto and Iiro Rantala in Sydney on Friday!

.

We had the pleasure of attending Pekka Kuusisto's and Iiro Rantala's Carte Blanche performance event at Kuhmo International Chamber Music Festival 2010 in Finland last year. They'll be performing together here in Sydney this coming Friday at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music as part of Musica Viva Chamber Music Festival:

MUSICA VIVA FESTIVAL 2011

LATE NIGHT MISCELLANY
BROADCAST LIVE ON ABC CLASSIC FM
FRIDAY, 29TH APRIL, 10:00PM

Verbrugghen Hall

Until 1850, public concert performances inevitably mixed popular songs, opera arias and arrangements in equal measure. They were known as 'Miscellany' concerts and were attended by all and sundry. The Festival's late night concert is a contemporary take on the Miscellany concert, combining tango, folk and jazz elements.

A special highlight of the concert is the appearance of acclaimed Finnish jazz pianist and composer Iiro Rantala who joins his musical colleague and close friend Pekka Kuusisto in a unique musical collaboration.

The concert also features the Eggner Trio performing Astor Piazzolla's Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. It may not be mandatory to kick up one's heels, but neither is it forbidden!
