Post #400: Alvar Aalto & Kurt Schranzer

These two objects face us every morning when we wake up. The lamp on the left 
is by Alvar Aalto, his well known design from the 50's. The artwork on the right is 
by a well-known Sydney artist Kurt Schranzer (who also happens to be a friend of 
mine). Here are the details of his work:

The Book of Stairs

2002, acrylic, nickel piano-hinge, wood, book object presented 17 x 12 x 12 cm
mounted under glass, 2 pack acrylic/wood box frame 44 x 39 x 18 cm
Signed and inscribed reverse with title, date, catalogue no. MCMLXXX
Provenance: Private Collection
Exhibited: 2002 The Great Library, Room 35, Sydney. 

Kurt has an important project coming to an end: his new body of work (as in not 
previously exhibited), 'The Great Walls', that has been in progress for a decade, 
will be shown for the first time at Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers 
Bequest (see here) in Sydney from the 16th of April till the 19th of June, 2011. 
This truly is an important event for Australian art. For more information, please
