The six finalists have just been announced in the City of Helsinki Central Library
Design Competition (website). We don't know who the architects are, just that
these particular designs were selected from 544 entries for stage 2 of the
competition. Now the selected entries need to finalised over the next three
months, and the overall winner will announced in June/July 2013.
My favourites are entry numbers 149 (Käännös) and 375 (The Green
Metropolis).
Liblab. (Interesting, but doesn't quite soar, looks a bit squashed.) . |
Wave. (Wood again, but does not do it for me - and why such a gloomy image?) . |
Käännös. (Wood, wood, wood! Great void on top!) . |
The Diagonal Agora. (Influenced by Alvar Aalto's Sibelius Hall next door?) . |
Kasi. (Kiasma - Museum of Contemporary Art on the right, not my fav building.) |
The Green Metropolis.
(Nicely airy. Sauna?)
