Two V&A Museum Videos

.

I've just finished reading Edmund de Waal's book The Hare with Amber Eyes:

I was taken by it, but I'd be hesitant to declare it a masterpiece, as some
reviewers have. On a personal note, I don't know, but reading about the cruelty
we humans are capable of towards each other, still just scares the shit out of me
(I'm referring to de Waal's vivid portrait of the well documented times before and
during the Second World War with regard to Nazi oppression in Central Europe,
and their abominable state sanctioned doctrines against minorities).

However, the fact that de Waal is an artist, specialising in pottery, gave me an
additional interest to hang on to the story. Some of the readers of my diary may
remember that in a couple of months time I'm going back to school, to study
ceramics, at Brookvale TAFE in Sydney, thus the pottery interests in de Waal's
book and ouvre in general.

I came across these two video clips produced by the Victoria and Albert Museum
in London about de Waal's take on his work, and about the idea behind the
installation at the foyer of VAM.

Note that these videos are about five minutes in length, but well worth it should
you be interested in ceramics (or not, and if so, you might just learn something):
